IU: Crimson 24, Cream 0
By The Associated Press
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Brian Lewis rushed for 191 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Crimson to a 24-0 victory over the Cream in Indiana University's annual spring football game Friday night.
The Crimson, the Hoosiers' No. 1 unit, held the Cream to minus-3 yards rushing, an encouraging sign for a defense that ranked 10th in the Big Ten last year.
"I thought our No. 1 offense didn't run the ball very well early and then looked like they took over the line of scrimmage," coach Gerry DiNardo said. "Today was probably one of our better days defending the run and running the ball."
In his first performance in front of an Indiana crowd, quarterback Matt LoVecchio - a transfer from Notre Dame - completed 7-of-18 passes for 77 yards and led the Crimson on three scoring drives.
"He's been terrific," DiNardo said. "He has a great attitude and just wants to learn and grow with our offense."
Freshman quarterback Graeme McFarland played most of the game on the No. 2 offense. DiNardo also put McFarland in for two possessions with the No. 1 offense and he converted one of them into a 5-play, 63-yard drive capped by freshman tailback Marlin Lynch's 11-yard touchdown run.
