LEXINGTON - Fred H. Otto III, police chief at the University of Missouri, has been chosen to lead the University of Kentucky police.
Otto will assume the duties of UK police chief July 1, succeeding Rebecca Langston, who left UK to become public-safety commissioner for Lexington.
A Fort Thomas, Ky., native, Otto is a former Kentucky State Police trooper and police chief for Highland Heights, Ky.
He also served in public safety positions at Miami University in Oxford and at Northern Kentucky University.
"It's like a dream to be able to return to Kentucky and serve as police chief of the state's flagship university," Otto said.
Otto was chosen after a national search that began in January.
Otto received a bachelor's degree in police administration and a master's degree in criminal justice from Eastern Kentucky University.
He has a master's degree in public administration from Xavier University.
