Saccharin maker wins in court
PMC Specialties Group Inc., in St. Bernard, the only U.S. producer of the artificial sweetener saccharin, has won another round in its yearlong antidumping case against producers in the People's Republic of China.
The U.S. Commerce Department this week set final duties of up to 329 percent on imports from China. PMC has charged Chinese producers with exporting saccharin at prices below cost to grab market share.
Suzhou Fine Chemicals Group Co. was assessed duties of 292 percent; Shanghai Fortune Chemical Co., 249 percent; Kaifeng Xinhua Fine Chemical Co., 282 percent; and all other Chinese producers will be assessed 329 percent, the Commerce Department said.
The U.S. International Trade Commission was hearing testimony Thursday in the final, injury phase, of the proceedings.
Value rises after Pomeroy report
Shares of Hebron-based Pomeroy Computer Resources Inc., a seller of computer equipment and services, rose as much as 17 percent Thursday after the company released financial results Wednesday.
Pomeroy rose $1.17 to $9.25. The shares had declined 49 percent in the past year.
Raymond James & Associates analyst Brian Alexander raised the shares to "market perform" from "underperform" after the company's first-quarter profit beat his estimate by 1 cent.
U.S. Steel buys naming rights
Gary, Ind.'s minor league baseball stadium, to be the home of the Gary Southshore Railcats, will be known as "The Steel Yard" under a 10-year agreement with U.S. Steel Corp.
Terms were not disclosed. However, the U.S. Steel Foundation will provide an additional $875,000 over 10 years to support youth baseball in Gary.
