Hot Stuff

I dare you: Hostesses of upcoming bachelorette parties, take note. The new party card game, Bachelorette Dares (Meadowbrook Press; $4.99) is a wild way to say goodbye to the single life by daring each other to do outlandish things. The "dares" include things to do at a bar such as "ask a guy to use his best pick-up line on the bride-to-be," "get five guys' phone numbers, in case the groom gets 'cold feet' " or "lip-synch the song 'You're So Vain' and dedicate it to 'the cutest guy at the bar." Available at Spencer Gift stores, Hustler in Monroe and online at www.meadowbookpress.com.

To Do

Look it up: The Mount Healthy Committee of the Friends of the Public Library is sponsoring a used book sale this weekend at the Mount Healthy City Park Pool Building. A preview sale for teachers, home schoolers and youth group leaders will be from 3-6 p.m. today, with the sale opening to the public 6-9 p.m. today and 2-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Free, 522-7544.

Go fish and stuff: The Dan Beard Council of the Boy Scouts of America presents the Outdoor Action Expo 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday at Coney Island. Activities include a climbing wall, rappelling, canoeing, archery, shooting ranges, scuba diving, tomahawk throw, games and Coney Island rides. Celebrities appearing include food expert Marilyn Harris, Roger Bingham from Survivor II, Olympic archer Darrell Pace, Chris Chianelli from DIY Network's Radio Control and players from the Cincinnati Swarm arena football team and University of Cincinnati's basketball and football teams. 961-2336, Ext. 225.

Shelf Help

Mad attitude: Being frustrated and being a teenager sometimes go hand-in-hand. In Cool It! Teen Tips to Keep Hot Tempers From Boiling Over by Dr. Michael Hershorn (New Horizon Press; $14.95), age-specific, anger producing problems in the lives of teenagers are discussed with proven ways of diffusing a tense situation. .

So not a teen: If you have a moody pre-teen with friendship issues, this book is for you. The American Girl's Library book, A Smart Girl's Guide to Friendship Troubles (Pleasant Company; $9.95) identifies the tough friendship issues girls face today.
