College Update
Xavier outfielder Mark Andres was selected to the All-Atlantic 10 first team. He hit .325 with 35 RBI. Teammates Eric Greenwell (2B), Jay Johnson (OF) and Adam Jahnsen were named to the second team.
Mason grad Kyle Peters, a freshman infielder and pitcher at Mount Vernon Nazarene, was selected as an honorable mention for both the American Mideast Conference and the National Christian College Athletic Association East Region.
Northern Kentucky softball players Megan Owens and Krystal Lewallen earned second team All-Great Lakes region honors.
Seton graduate Carrie Higgins, now a third baseman at Mount St. Joseph, was named to the NCAA Division III All-Tournament team for the Emory University five-team bracket in which the Lions played. Higgins, along with teammate Annie Neumann, was also named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-Central Region team. Neumann is also a Seton grad.
Three local products played their way into Ohio Athletic Conference postseason baseball honors. Muskingum designated hitter Todd Hoffert (Mason) was a first team selection. Marietta catcher Mike Shrimpton (Sycamore) made the second team. Wilmington catcher Chad Abbott (Hillsboro) was an honorable mention selection.
Denison baseball teammates Brian Regan (Anderson) and Drew Shamrock (Mason) were named to the All-North Coast Athletic Conference first and second team respectively.
Miami outfielder Michael Carlin was named the Mid-American Conference player of the week after hitting three home runs in four games. It was his third career player of the week award.
