COVINGTON - A 41-year-old Lakeside Park man charged in the May 5 shooting death of his math teacher wife was returned to Northern Kentucky Sunday and is scheduled to be arraigned on a murder charge this morning in Kenton County District Court.
Dennis R. Greene Sr., escorted by Kenton County sheriff's deputies, arrived at the Kenton County Jail at 6:10 p.m. Sunday. Greene was arrested on a murder warrant in Chicago by a SWAT team May 8 after an armed standoff. He waived extradition.
The Chicago native is charged with killing Tara Greene, 28, a teacher at Holmes Junior High School in Covington.
"Right now he's charged with murder. He should be arraigned in the morning," Commonwealth's Attorney William Crockett said Sunday.
Greene faces 20-50 years in jail or life with parole if convicted of the murder charge, Crockett said. At present he is not eligible for the death penalty because the murder charge doesn't include any aggravated circumstances, he said. But that could change depending on evidence.
A pretrial hearing for Greene will probably be scheduled for early next week, Crockett said.
Tara Greene's body was discovered inside the couple's apartment on Hollow View Circle in the Derby Ridge apartments May 8 when an employee at the complex unlocked the door for police, who were checking on her at the request of her mother. Neighbors reported hearing arguments inside the apartment, and hearing shots fired the previous evening.
Greene was an employee at Children's Home of Northern Kentucky. The couple's 7-year-old son is staying with Tara Greene's parents.
