AUBURN, Ala. - Brett Garrard drove in four runs and Mason High graduate Matt Davis pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth as Ohio State advanced to the NCAA baseball tournament super regionals with a 9-7 victory over Auburn on Sunday.
The Buckeyes (44-19), who won the Big Ten Conference tournament, swept through the regional for their first super regional berth since 1999. They beat Auburn (42-21), the No. 4 national seed, twice over the weekend and scored 25 runs in three regional games.
Drew Anderson, who had homered four times in the first two games, doubled twice while Garrard had a two-run double, an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.
Davis, a sophomore, earned his third save of the regional after getting Karl Amonite to fly out to center with the bases loaded in the eighth after encountering control problems.

"Matt's one of the greatest competitors I've ever seen on the mound," said Anderson, the tournament's MVP. "To me, bases loaded or whatever, it doesn't matter. I know Matt's going to come through somehow."
Davis walked Clete Thomas to start the ninth but got Scott Schade to ground into a double play. Derek Sain flied to center to end it.
"I didn't have my best stuff," Davis said. "I was throwing more balls than I usually do. I told myself I wasn't going to let walks beat me. I was going to challenge the hitter and whatever happened, happened."
