PARIS - For Andre Agassi, it was a match to remember. For Venus Williams, it was a day to forget.
Trapped in a rut of 12 double-faults and 75 unforced errors, Williams was stunned by Russian teen Vera Zvonareva 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 Sunday in the French Open's fourth round.
The loss ends the run of four straight Williams vs. Williams major finals, all won by Serena.
"I was really off," Venus said. "I just had a tough time keeping balls in."
Agassi, meanwhile, beat Flavio Saretta 6-2, 6-1, 7-5 to reach the quarterfinals of the French Open for the fourth time in five years.
Agassi, the 1999 champion, will next play the winner of a match suspended because of darkness Sunday, with No. 7-seeded Guillermo Coria leading Mariano Zabaleta 6-4, 7-6 (4), 5-7.
One men's quarterfinal pairing is already set: No. 4 Carlos Moya against unseeded Dutchman Martin Verkerk, who had never won a Grand Slam match coming into the tournament.
Also Sunday, three-time champion Gustavo Kuerten beat No. 21 Gaston Gaudio 7-6 (1), 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 in a third round match that had been suspended. He meets Spaniard Tommy Robredo for a trip to the quarterfinals.
Agassi's victory left him three wins from his 59th career championship, and it left him in a mood to reminisce. He played a Brazilian on Sunday. As it happens, he won his first title 15 years ago in Itaparica, Brazil.
"Martin Jaite in the semis, Luis Mattar in the final, 7-6, 6-2," Agassi said. "A $90,000 paycheck. Lots of women in bathing suits going around. I remember a lot. It was a very special week for me."
Agassi won the Australian Open this year and is 11-0 in Grand Slam matches since losing to Pete Sampras in the 2002 U.S. Open final.
The quarterfinals are set for the women. Zvonareva will play Nadia Petrova, who upset 2001 champion Jennifer Capriati.
Tuesday's other quarterfinals are defending champion Serena Williams vs. No. 5 Amelie Mauresmo, who beat her on clay last month; No. 2 Kim Clijsters vs. No. 24 Conchita Martinez, who advanced when Lindsay Davenport stopped with a toe injury; and No. 4 Justine Henin-Hardenne vs. No. 8 Chanda Rubin.
