Doctor destroyed records after player's death
College sports notebook
The Enquirer and wire reports
Mark Gardner, a Northwestern doctor, destroyed records of a routine physical exam of a football player who died three weeks later during practice, the school said.
The doctor also indicated he knew Rashidi Wheeler had been taking dietary supplements, according to a deposition taken in a lawsuit Wheeler's family filed against Northwestern, the Chicago Tribune reported.
School lawyers contend ephedra-containing supplements caused the player's death in 2001.

LOUISVILLE
Basketball coach Rick Pitino, in a letter to Conference USA commissioner Britton Banowksy, expressed support for Conference USA and said he was misquoted by the Syracuse Post-Standard. Pitino was quoted in Sunday's Post-Standard saying "Conference USA is God-awful. The worst thing about Louisville is it's in Conference USA."
"First," Pitino wrote, "let me say I have never used the expression God-awful one time in my life. Secondly, I love Conference USA. . . . Please don't think these are my thoughts or feelings regarding the league."
