HARVEYSBURG - A second British invasion comes to Warren County this weekend.
The permanent village that is home to the Ohio Renaissance Festival will once again be the backdrop for the British Isles Festival, a two-day contemporary celebration of the traditions and heritage of the countries of the United Kingdom.
Building on the success of last year's inaugural festival, this year's event will see an expanded lineup of entertainment, food, games and shopping, as well as a British car show.
"Our headline entertainment will be the Glengarry Bhoys, who fuse the sounds of their Glengarry heritage with modern Celtic and contemporary music," says Cheryl Bales, festival marketing director. "We'll also have Equation, England's premier folk rock band; Little Johnny England, a quintet who mix squeezebox, fiddle, electric guitar, bass and drums; and a full schedule of entertainment on 10 stages."
Food booths will satisfy taste buds with traditional British foods and ales, including English bangers and mash (sausage and mashed potatoes), fish and chips, haggis, Irish stew, Scottish meat pies and more. Baked goods and confections will also be plentiful. Village pubs will offer a selection of British beers, lagers and ales.
A petting zoo will be filled with animals indigenous to the British Isles.
The festival runs June 14 and 15 from 10:30 am - 6 p.m., rain or shine. Admission tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for children. Discount tickets available at local Kroger stores. For further information, call (513) 897-7000, ext. 242.
