A partnership between a nursing home and local businesses to develop preventive health care awareness among the elderly has won a state award.
The Social Accountability Award will be presented to the Lincoln Crawford Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center Saturday during the center's annual Healthwave Health Fair from 1-5 p.m. at the Walnut Hills Kroger, 945 E. McMillan St.
The award is presented by the Association of Ohio Philanthropic Homes Housing and Services for the Aging. It recognizes collaboration among the center, businesses, and community and government agencies in identifying and preventing avoidable diseases.

"We are very excited about getting the award," said Erika Jay, director of development and community relations at the center. "It is especially important that the award recognizes the impact of Healthwave, which is offered free and helps people to take precautions and be aware of the value of early treatment and the necessity of conscientious management."
Jay said the center is aware that some chronic diseases are disproportionately prevalent in the black community. Healthwave was started in 1998 as a response to the need to screen and education people with advanced cardiovascular disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.
Radio station WCIN's Evercare, Champlin-Haupt Architects, Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority and Walnut Hills Area Council have also participated in Healthwave.
Former WCPO TV-Channel 9 talk-show host Hasker Nelson Jr., will discuss his book, Listening for Our Past, from 6:30-8 p.m. Monday at the Avondale Library, 3566 Reading Road.
