NORWOOD - More kids will be going to camp and learning how to swim as a result of the sales of U.S. Playing Cards' "Iraqi Most Wanted" deck.
The Norwood company will donate $10,000 to the Richard E. Lindner YMCA, at Sherman and Walters streets, on Monday.
George White, vice president of marketing for U.S. Playing Cards, said the money is part of the sales from the cards.
Alan Geans, executive director of the branch, said the money will be used to beef up scholarships to the Y's summer camp program, already in progress.
"Each year, we give so many scholarships for kids to attend," Geans said. "This gift will enable us to add more kids to the camp."
Geans said the money will also be used as a part of youth swim initiative.
"We will be able to add more kids to this program as well. We are grateful to U.S. Playing Card. This will help us to assist more families and kids with memberships. We can carry out the real mission of the Y, which is to serve all who come."
White said the card company has been in Norwood more than 100 years, just as the YMCA has, and that both know the value of supporting neighborhood activities.
"The Lindner YMCA is a true asset to the Norwood Community," White said.
Earlier this year, the company gave money from the sale of the "Iraqi Most Wanted" deck to two charities. The Norwood Service League and the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors Inc. of Washington received $50,000 each.
