First, he lost his job as chairman and CEO of Ashland Inc. because of an office sex scandal. Now Paul Chellgren is out as a member of the University of Kentucky board of trustees.
In August, Chellgren was forced to leave the Covington-based company for failing to heed its prohibition against office flings.
Ashland gave Chellgren a severance package, an office, an assistant for one year and the prospect of $2,000 a day for consulting services that the company doesn't have to use. The woman, whose name has never been disclosed publicly, received a severance deal.
Throughout, Chellgren kept the seat he had occupied on the UK board of trustees since 1992. But his service came to an end Monday, when his term expired and he was not given an extension by Kentucky Gov. Paul Patton, who was caught in an extramarital affair himself last year. A Patton spokeswoman said she didn't believe Chellgren's highly publicized ouster led to his replacement on the UK board.
"It's the governor's prerogative to appoint who he chooses to," Chris Kellogg said.
