Former Reds remodel homes

map
Cincinnati Reds fans get a peek at the homes of former Big Red Machine stars Johnny Bench and Ken Griffey Sr. on DIY, Scripps' Do It Yourself network.

Bench, Griffey, Boston Red Sox outfielder Johnny Damon and retired pitcher Greg McMichael welcome DIY into their homes for remodeling projects in a week of programs called Major League Remodel (7 and 10:30 p.m.).

Dennis Janson, WCPO-TV (Channel 9) sports anchor, hosts the programs. First up: Building a batting cage at the Georgia home of McMichael, the former Atlanta Braves pitcher.

On Tuesday, Janson helps Griffey remodel a bedroom with a baseball theme for his eight grandchildren in his Orlando, Fla., home. The two team up again for Friday's episode designing Griffey's home office.

Janson helps Damon redesign his sports den on Wednesday, and offers tips to viewers on displaying sports collectibles Thursday.

Bench, the Hall of Fame catcher, appears on DIY 2-8 p.m. Saturday from his new Anderson Township home hosting a six-hour marathon repeating these half-hour episodes. Viewers also will see a DIY team transform parts of his home into a baseball museum, using some of his memorabilia from his 17-year career with the Reds.

The Saturday marathon also will include baseball tips from former players Cal Ripken Jr., Terry Pendelton, Mark Lemke and McMichael, and a tour of the Louisville Slugger bat factory in Louisville, Ky.

Becker back

Good news for fans of Ted Danson's Becker: CBS has added the sitcom to Wednesdays for fall. When the network didn't schedule the comedy for fall, some publications reported that the series had been canceled.

Now the bad news: Becker and King of Queens will air 9-10 p.m. Wednesday against ABC's popular The Bachelor and NBC's The West Wing.

Becker replaces The Stones, a comedy about parents (Robert Klein, Judith Light) whose adult children move back home. It will air at midseason.

New 'Dance Fever'

Carmen Electra (Baywatch, Singled Out) returns to TV as a celebrity judge for the revival of Merv Griffin's old Dance Fever (7 p.m. Sunday, ABC Family Channel).

Electra, who graduated from Princeton High School in 1990 as Tara Patrick, will be part of a celebrity panel with choreographer Jamie King and former rapper MC Hammer.

Electra also will appear in a big screen adaptation of Starsky and Hutch with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson.

TV today

A profile of Batman star Adam West (8 p.m., A&E) kicks off "cult TV" week on Biography. Also featured are The Munsters (Tuesday), Happy Days (Wednesday) and M*A*S*H (Thursday).

American Experience premieres Bataan Rescue, a film about the 1944 rescue of 500 American POWs from a Japanese prison camp in the Philippines during World War II (9 p.m., Channels 48, 16).
