Kentucky obituaries



The Kentucky Enquirer publishes obituaries of residents in Boone, Campbell, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton and Pendleton counties as a free service. Obituaries are published based on available space each day and may be held until space is available. Information is accepted from funeral homes 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. Boone County

Marvin Murray

VERONA - Marvin Murray, 77, of Glencoe, Ky., a brake operator for Mar-Mat Manufacturing Co., and member of Salem Baptist Church in Walton, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Marie Adams Murray, on June 26.

Surviving are a son, Bennie F. Adams of Glencoe, Ky.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and two sisters. Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. and service 4 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home in Verona. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery in Verona.

Campbell County

Maurice H. Byrne Jr.

NEWPORT - Maurice "Mossey" H. Byrne Jr., 85, a former artist for the Molding Arts & Plaster Co. and an Army veteran, died Monday at Northern Kentucky Care & Rehabilitation Center in Highland Heights.

He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish Church in Newport. He was also a member of the church's holy name society and the Starlighters of Holy Spirit, a couples group. He was a member of the Catholic War Vets and the Catholic Theatre Guild.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Meister Byrne; three daughters, Eileen Byrne of Covington, Rebecca Giles of Independence and Maureen Wash of Highland Heights; a son, Kevin of Union; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday at A.C. Dobbling & Son Funeral Home in Bellevue. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Spirit Parish Church in Newport. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery in Fort Thomas.

Memorials: Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, KY 41075; or Holy Spirit Parish Church, 825 Washington Ave., Newport, KY 41071.

June V. Dyas

NEWPORT - June V. Dyas, 64, a packer for 30 years with J. Charles Glass Works in Erlanger, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital in Fort Thomas.

Surviving are her husband, Wallace; a daughter, Deborah Coldiron of Newport; two sisters, Rosalie Mickelson of Reno, Nev., and Evelyn of Barboursville, W.Va.; and one grandchild.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Sunday and service 11 a.m. Monday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home in Newport. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Taylor Mill.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Grant County

Gary Hester

DRY RIDGE - Gary Mitchell Hester, 56, a member of Florence Methodist Church, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Williamstown.

Surviving are a sister, Mary Ann Flynn of Florence.

No public services planned. Mr. Hester will be cremated, and his remains buried in Florence Cemetery. Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home in Dry Ridge is handling arrangements.

Kenton County

Shelby Hedger

COVINGTON - Shelby Hedger, 73, owner of Hedger Moving Co., died Friday at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Covington.

Surviving are his wife, June; three sons, William of Villa Hills and Steven and Bernard, both of Covington; four daughters, Susan Downard of Williamstown, Cindy Gaskins of Bloomington, Ill. and Deborah Hedger and Kathy Gibson, both of Covington; a brother, Alvin Hedger of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Rosalee Belew of Fort Campbell and Lorraine Brown of Covington; 19 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Monday and service 11 a.m. Tuesday at Don Catchen & Son Funeral Home in Elsmere. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Southgate.

Elizabeth B. Overman

PARK HILLS - Elizabeth B. Welp Overman, 95, a retired housekeeper and food service employee for Notre Dame Academy in Park Hills, died Tuesday at her home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, in 1957.

Surviving are three daughters, Elizabeth Overberg of Cincinnati, Mary Vormbrocke of Fort Wright and Sister Mary Joell, S.N.D., of Park Hills; three sisters, Agnes Wegener, Josepha Bokeloh and Grete Wessler, all of Germany; two brothers, Heinrich Welp and Willi Welp, both of Germany; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Middendorf Bullock Funeral Home in Covington. A second visitation will be 8:30-9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian burial will be 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Agnes Church in Fort Wright. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery in Fort Wright.

Memorials: Sisters of Notre Dame, 1601 Dixie Highway, Park Hills, KY 41011; or Notre Dame Academy, 1699 Hilton Drive, Park Hills, KY 41011.
