Morgan, Ouzts winners at River Downs

The Enquirer and wire reports

Jim Morgan, 69, and Perry Ouzts, 49, won the leading trainer and rider title, respectively, for the first half of the spring-summer meet.

Morgan, kingpin of Ohio racing from Bellbrook, saddled 17 winners from 42 starters with $150,000 earnings during the 61-day meet.

Ouzts (pronounced OOTS) had 67 winners from 349 mounts with $435,346 for his RD record 18th riding title. Ouzts, who began riding at the Cincinnati track in 1973, has 4,300-plus wins.

"The publicity department promised me a Bobblehead Day if I reach 5,000 wins or ride here for 35 years," Ouzts said, smiling. "I think I can do both."
