Citizen tackles suspect police chased
The Cincinnati Enquirer
COVINGTON - A citizen on the Covington riverfront Tuesday night tackled a man being chased by sheriff's deputies.
Undercover deputies of the Kenton County Sheriff's Office had been looking for Rodney Hail, wanted for violating probation. About 10 p.m., they spotted a truck like his and called for a uniformed deputy to pull the truck over.
The truck sped away, Chief Deputy Ron Washington said, and drove north toward the Ohio River, followed by officers. The driver then bailed out near the Mike Fink restaurant. Deputy Jeremy Adams ran after him and got help from the citizen.
Patrick Burns just happened to be standing along the riverbank at the time, when he saw officers chasing the man and joined in. Burns tackled Hail on the bank near the Ohio's confluence with the Licking River, deputies said. Hail was charged with fleeing from police, wanton endangerment and possession of marijuana.
