LEXINGTON - A married couple from Nicholasville was arrested Thursday on federal felony charges of possessing child pornography, U.S. Attorney Gregory F. Van Tatenhove said.

Terry Adkins, 25, and his wife, Jane M. Adkins, 32, of Nicholasville, were arrested early Thursday morning after police found images of child pornography on a computer in their home. Police also found a filing cabinet that contained "vast quantities" of child pornography, Van Tatenhove said.

Police had been investigating recent reports by four children in different counties who claimed they had been sexually assaulted. A concerned citizen tipped police to Adkins after composite sketches of the suspect in that case circulated through the community.

On Wednesday, police searched the Adkins' home and found a computer in a rear bedroom that was on. An icon on the screen led investigators to a folder that contained images of child pornography, according to complaints filed against the couple.

Investigators also found a filing cabinet that contained "sexually explicit photographs of both pubescent and prepubescent children," according to the complaint.

They are facing felony federal charges on child pornography possession. If convicted, they could face between five and 20 years in prison.
