MASON - The plug is being pulled today on the community center's competition pool.
The city is having problems with hydraulics that work the adjustable floor of the 25-meter competition pool inside the Mason Community Center.
Divers have tried several times to fix the four hydraulic sensors at the corners of the floor, which can be raised or lowered, but could not do it without the pool emptied.
"They all have to balance to make the floor move up and down," said Michael Hecker, director of the city's parks and recreation department.
The 500,000-gallon pool will be drained today and should reopen Aug. 11.
The contractor is working with the city to correct the problem, Hecker said.
The competition pool opened in March with the community center, located at 6050 Mason-Montgomery Road.
It's one of several facilities in the center that's shared by the school district and community.
The pool area features two diving boards and bleacher seating for up to 800 people. When the school or city swim teams are not using the pool, it is open for regular use.
The center's 161,400-gallon leisure pool also is open for patrons.
