Grocery store is top 'meet' market

Survey Says:

Food shoppers are checking out more than their groceries on trips to the supermarket, a new poll shows.

The "Food in America" poll by Food & Wine magazine and America Online indicates the supermarket check-out line is the most popular choice for a place to meet a mate.

Thirty-four percent of respondents picked the supermarket over adult-education cooking classes (31 percent), farmer's markets (23 percent) and bookstores' cookbook departments (12 percent).

The unscientific poll's other findings include:

• Whipped cream is the sexiest food.

• Chocolate mousse is better than sex.

• A burger and fries is the quintessential American food.

• Merlot is the most favored red wine.

• Skinless chicken breast is the food of choice for healthful cooking.

• Chef Emeril Lagasse is the sexiest food celebrity on television.

• Ozzy Osbourne's refrigerator inspires the most curiosity.

The poll, which surveyed nearly one million AOL members, is featured in the August issue of Food & Wine magazine. For more, go to www.foodandwine.com/fia.
