The Early Word

Last minute

Blues up north: It's blues/R&B heaven tonight at Kettering's Fraze Pavilion, as singer/guitarist Susan Tedeschi headlines one of the best multigenerational double bills in a long time. Soul music giant Solomon Burke opens the 7:30 p.m. show. Burke's comeback album, Don't Give Up on Me, won rave reviews and a Grammy for best contemporary blues album. His rare area appearance is a special occasion. Combine that with the feisty Tedeschi's performance, put it in the intimate, 4,300-capacity amphitheater, and it should be a night to remember. Ticketmaster (562-4949 or www.ticketmaster.com) has the $17.50-$30 tickets.

Punk Nite: At the BarrelHouse Brewing Co. (22 E. 12th St., Over-the-Rhine; 421-2337), it's Mud Productions' Punk Nite with Every Five Seconds, Blind Judgment and Based in Theory 10 p.m. today; $4.

In Newport tonight: It's Dayton's rock savant Robert Pollard and Guided By Voices at the Southgate House, 24 E. Third St.; (859) 431-2201. The Sights open the 9 p.m. show. Tickets are $16 at the door. Doors open at 7:30 p.m..
