Ex-Tristater 'Juniors' singer

Television

By Erica Solvig
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Pleasant Run Farms native Danielle White has become the final member of Fox's American Juniors singing group.

The 11-year-old, whose family moved to Bradenton, Fla., on Tuesday night joined Taylor Thompson and Tori Thompson, both of Santa Maria, Calif., Chauncey Matthews of San Diego and Lucy Hale of Memphis, Tenn.

The newly formed group will perform on the American Juniors season finale on Tuesday (8 p.m., Channels 19, 45).

"I'm higher than a helium balloon," said her grandfather, the Rev. Jack White, by telephone from Hollywood. "It's transformed her life forever. But she's still a shy, innocent, sweet little girl."

Danielle sang "Colors of the Wind" and then joined the other four members of the group for "Never Had a Dream Come True" on Tuesday's show.

A full-length CD - Kids In America from Jive Records - featuring singles by the 10 finalists from Fox's younger version of American Idol, will be released Sept. 9.

The five-member final group's debut album will be released later this year by Jive.

Danielle's parents, Brian and Jeannie White, are working out who will stay with Danielle during talk show appearances, recordings and tours. Danielle also has an older brother, Andrew, who tried out for the show, too.

Members of White's congregation at Faith Christian Fellowship had been among those voting for Danielle as the show progressed. They hope to have her come back and sing at the church sometime soon, White said.

"It's kind of overwhelming to us," he said. "It just seems surreal."

Date with Clooney

E! Entertainment's Love Chain looks at the many loves of George Clooney Sunday (10 p.m., E!).

E! claims he has dated actresses Kelly Preston (now married to John Travolta), Brooke Langton, Renee Zellweger, models Karen Duffy and Lisa Snowden, and waitress Celine Balitran. He has been single since his brief marriage to actress Talia Balsam (1989-92).

'The Next' rap contest

Showtime is getting into the talent-contest game with a six-part series that searches for great undiscovered rappers.

Interscope Presents The Next, to debut this fall, is essentially American Idol for hip-hop, although the network describes it as a reality-TV version of the 8 Mile MC battles.

"The show paints a picture of what countless kids in America are trying to do right now - become successful in rap music," says Jimmy Iovine, chairman of music conglomerate Interscope Geffen A&M and an executive producer of the show.

The Next will travel to Atlanta, Los Angeles, Detroit, New York and Philadelphia - all centers of hip-hop music and culture - for a series of auditions. Judges, including guest MCs and DJs, will then pick two people to square off for a spot in the finals.

Viewers will pick the winner.

Winning poker hand

The Travel Channel will air the second season of the World Poker Tour, and holds exclusive options for the Tour's next five seasons.

World Poker Tour has become a fixture in the Travel Channel's line-up. The first season (repeating 9-11 p.m. Wednesday) featured 13 events filmed in casinos and game rooms around the world.

The channel is filming a second season to debut early next year.

Channel 19 news

WXIX-TV's 10 p.m. news, pre-empted by Fox's 8 p.m. Raiders-49ers NFL preseason game today, will air as a half-hour newscast at 10 p.m. on WBQC-TV (Channel 25, or Time Warner Channel 20).

Channel 19 will broadcast another half-hour newscast after the game, at approximately 11 p.m.

TV today

• Author Wayne Dyer hosts another pledge night on Channel 48 (8 p.m.-midnight).

• Carla and Turk (Judy Reyes, Donald Faison) reconsider their wedding plans on a Scrubs rerun (8:30 p.m., Channels 5, 22).

• "Shark week" continues with Jaws of the Pacific (9 p.m., Discovery Channel) and Heidi Klum hosting Sharks Under Glass, a look at aquariums (10 p.m.).

• Behind the Music profiles Aerosmith (9-11 p.m., VH1).

John Kiesewetter and Zap2it contributed to this report.
