Howard: Some good news
Woman helps fight AIDS
At times her mission seems endless, but Dr. Judith Feinberg never thinks of quitting in her tireless efforts to research and help set standards of treatment for HIV- and AIDS-infected women.
The Amberley Village woman is in charge of HIV/AIDS clinical research at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
She was the recipient of the 2003 Constance B. Wofsy Women's Health Investigator Award, which recognizes people who have made significant contributions to research of HIV-infected women.
"It is a special honor to receive this award because I was a friend and colleague of (Wofsy)," Feinberg said. "As the number of women with HIV continues to increase, it is even more important to study HIV as it affects women."
Growing volunteers
Youth ambassadors are spreading their good deeds around New Miami.
Fifteen members of the group created a garden at the New Miami Elementary School last week.
"One of the goals is to beautify the neighborhood," said Regina Johnson-Phillips, coordinator of the event. "We think this project will inspire a sense of pride."
Teaching award
Know a favorite teacher who goes the extra step to inspire, motivate and educate students? Disney is looking for such a person. Nominations for the 2004 DisneyHand Teacher Award can be made until Oct. 3.

Walk for cancer
The Build-A-Bear Workshop will host a children's walk-a-thon from 9:30-11 a.m. Sept. 7 in Kenwood Towne Centre.
The money raised will be distributed by Build-a-Bear Workshop Foundation to benefit children's cancer research and treatment programs, and to help families of children with cancer.

"More than 12,000 children are diagnosed with cancer annually (nationally)," said Dr. Frank Smith, director of division hematology and oncology at CincinnatiChildren's Hospital Medical Center.
