Accident expert on boat-wreck case
DAYTON - An Ohio accident reconstruction expert is in Northern Kentucky this week to piece together the events of a June hit-and-run boat accident on the Ohio River.
Samuel Dewalt of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources will be the commonwealth's expert witness in an accident that left six people injured when a "cigarette-style" boat hit a 21-foot pleasure craft the night of June 27, Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Michelle Snodgrass said.
Snodgrass said Dewalt will try to determine some of the unknowns in the accident, such as how fast the "cigarette-style" boat was traveling when it hit the pleasure craft.
The owner of the boat that allegedly left the scene, Glenn C. Colann of the Columbus suburb of Gahanna, has been the only suspect named by prosecutors. Colann has denied any involvement in the crash and has not been charged.
