NEWTOWN - Two citizen initiatives here were rejected by the Hamilton County Board of Elections on Wednesday.

The initiatives would have scrapped an 8-mill fire levy that voters passed in 2002 and cancelled the village's contract with the Fairfax and Columbia Township joint fire district for fire protection.

Not enough valid signatures were collected on the petitions, the Board of Elections ruled.
