American Airlines' regional subsidiary American Eagle said Thursday it was starting weekend direct flights from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport to Miami.
The new route will begin Oct. 4 and feature two round trips on Saturdays and one on Sundays. The route will offer the only direct flights to Florida from Cincinnati not flown by Delta Air Lines, which operates its second-largest hub locally, or its subsidiaries.
The flight will be served by either a 40- or 50-seat Embraer regional jet.
"Our customers have asked us to consider expanding our service to popular leisure destinations," said Tom Bacon, senior vice president/marketing and planning for American Eagle. "Miami is one of the country's most popular leisure destinations, and we're confident this new service will provide Cincinnati travelers more choices and additional flexibility when making vacation plans."
A check of American's Web site showed an initial round trip fare of $289, including taxes and fees, for a two-week advance purchase that includes a Saturday night stay.
