BATAVIA - A 28-year-old Fairfield woman pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide Thursday and could face 16 years in prison when she is sentenced next month in Clermont County Common Pleas Court.
Tiffany Peterson wept in Judge William Walker's courtroom as she admitted causing the June 12 crash that killed Kathleen Rocklin, 21, and the female fetus Rocklin carried.
Peterson, who had no prior criminal record, had a blood alcohol level of 0.212 - more than twice the legal limit - the night she rear-ended the pickup truck carrying Rocklin.
Peterson said in court Thursday that she was extremely sorry for the deaths and opted to admit her guilt as an attempt to make amends for her actions.
Rocklin, of Milford, was a passenger in a pickup driven by her fiance, Andrew Grote, 28, of Loveland.
The couple was heading south on Interstate 275 at the time of the crash. They planned to marry July 12 and had just come from their last mentoring session with their pastor.
Grote and Peterson weren't seriously injured, officials said, but Rocklin, who wasn't wearing a seatbelt, died from her injuries when the pickup flipped in the median. The 11-week-old fetus she carried also died.
Peterson is in the Clermont County Jail pending her Oct. 2 sentencing.
