Tway wins Canadian in playoff with Faxon

Oklahoman Bob Tway, 44, two-putted for bogey on the third hole of a playoff with Brad Faxon in the Canadian Open Sunday in Hamilton, Ontario, to become the eighth over-40 player to win a PGA Tour event this year.

Vijay Singh, Kenny Perry, Fred Couples, Scott Hoch, Craig Stadler, Peter Jacobsen and Kirk Triplett are the other 40-plus winners.

LPGA TOUR: Karrie Webb shot a 4-under 66 to win the Hammons Hotels Classic in Tulsa by nine strokes, her first title in more than a year and the 29th of her career.

WALKER CUP: Britain-Ireland rallied to win the amateur prize for a record third straight time, defeating the United States 12 1/2-11 1/2 in the closest match since 1989.

EUROPEAN MASTERS: Ernie Els birdied the first four holes and shot a 6-under 65 to win by six strokes. Els finished at 17-under 267 and won for the sixth time this season to add to European PGA Order of Merit lead.

U.S. SENIOR AMATEUR: Bob Kulp won medalist honors with a 36-hole total of 6-under 137 in Bristol, Va.

Cincinnatians Bruce Rotte (154) and Robert Kroeger (158) failed to qualify for the 64-player match play.

U.S. SR. WOMEN'S AM: Cincinnatian Bernice Gallagher (161) and Diana Schwab (162) of Dayton qualified for match play at Austin, Texas.

Sherry Bowman earned medalist honors with a 1-over 145 for 36 holes.
