UNLV 33, Hawaii 22

By The Associated Press

LAS VEGAS - Dominque Dorsey rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown, and UNLV took advantage of six turnovers to defeat Hawaii 33-22 Friday night.

Dillon Pieffer tied a school record with four field goals as the Rebels returned to Las Vegas after stunning then-No. 14 Wisconsin 23-5 last Saturday.

Pieffer made kicks from 45, 43, 39 and 20 yards. Dorsey scored on a 36-yard run down the right side with 1:46 left in the first half to give UNLV (3-1) the lead for good, 21-14.

The Warriors (1-2) fumbled the ball away three times in the first half, and quarterback Timmy Chang, who threw for 363 yards and two touchdowns, was intercepted three times in the second half.

UNLV scored first after Hawaii punter Kurt Milne fumbled at the Warriors 12. Dyante Perkins finished the short drive with a 1-yard TD run up the middle with 9:26 left in the first quarter.

Hawaii tied it when a scrambling Chang found Britton Komine open in the end zone with a 38-yard touchdown pass with 2:31 remaining in the first quarter. The Warriors then took a 14-7 lead on Chang's 8-yard pass to Chad Owens with 9:53 left in the half.

After UNLV's Ruschard Dodd-Masters returned a fumble by Jimaal Brimmer 22 yards to the Hawaii 16, Perkins scored on a 4-yard run around the left side to make it 14-all 5:36 left.

The Rebels went up 24-14 on Dorsey's TD run and Pieffer's 20-yard field goal with 16 seconds left in the half.

Pieffer kicked three field goals in the third quarter and had a chance to break the record in the fourth, but his kick hit the right upright.

See Poumele's 7-yard touchdown run with 8:44 left in the third cut UNLV's lead to 27-22, but Pieffer made kicks of 45 and 43 yards.

UNLV quarterback Kurt Nantkes threw for 180 yards with one interception.

Notes

Joey DiGiovanna made four field goals in a game for UNLV in 1984 and Nick Garitano did it in 1992 and 1993. ... The crowd of 34,287 was the third largest ever at Sam Boyd Stadium. The two largest were against Wisconsin in 2002 (42,075) and 1996 (40,091). UNLV is 6-10 against Hawaii, but has won three straight. ... The Rebels are 4-1-1 playing Friday night games. ... The Warriors are playing six road games this season and are 0-2.
