CLIFTON - The arrest of a North Avondale couple solves a string of armed robberies this summer at popular Ludlow Avenue businesses, and a grand jury will consider additional charges in the case Friday, police said.
The pair, Anthony Green, 46, and Charlotte Ringel-Shelton, 42, are accused of taking turns wielding a gun and demanding money - "sort of like a Bonnie and Clyde, I guess you might say," said Officer Eric Karaguleff.Police determined they were looking for a couple after two holdups July 28 within about 15 minutes of each other - the first by her, they say, and the second by him. Police said witnesses to the latter robbery, at Mr. Tuxedo on McMillan Street, said they heard a man yell: "Start the car!" as Green ran and jumped into Ringel-Shelton's Cadillac. About $150 in cash was taken.
Among the 13 robberies in which they are suspects: Uno's Restaurant on Ludlow Avenue June 28;Deja Shoe on Calhoun Street July 23; a man on Riddle Road and of the Smoke N Save on North Bend Road, both on July 26; $15 taken from a woman walking on Ludlow July 30; the Golden Lion bar on Ludlow Avenue and Hemptations on Madison Road in O'Bryonville, both on Sept. 6.
They two were arrested by University of Cincinnati police Sept. 13 on unrelated misdemeanor charges after officers found them wandering in a building, Karaguleff said. Authorities searched their Greenwood Avenue apartment and found a gun and clothing police said was used in the robberies.
Green and Ringel-Shelton were charged with aggravated robbery and illegally possessing guns.
Karaguleff said investigators think the pair was using the money to buy crack cocaine.
