Novel inspires 'Ya-Ya' groups
"Ya-Ya" groups everywhere can pay homage to author Rebecca Wells, who coined the word in her 1997 novel, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, which chronicles the lives of four friends in a sleepy Louisiana parish. Vivi, Teensy, Neecie and Caro, calling themselves the "Ya-Yas" after an ancient spirit guide, grow up together, marry, raise their children together and see each other through the good and bad times with humor, sympathy, gin, Southern charm and huge doses of love. The book was made into a movie last year starring Ellen Burstyn and Ashley Judd.
