Swedes blank Nigeria 3-0, next play Brazil
The Associated Press
COLUMBUS - Sweden joined Team USA as teams advancing from Group A of the Women's World Cup by beating Nigeria 3-0 Sunday at Crew Stadium.
The Swedes will face Brazil, which beat them in the 1995 World Cup and the 2000 Olympics.
"We don't have a good history with Brazil, but we are getting closer to a victory when we've lost so many times," coach Marika Domanski Lyfors said.
Hanna Ljungberg broke a personal scoring slump Sunday with her first two goals of the tournament's first round.
The Swedes sealed the victory with two goals in a one-minute span.
Ghana 2, Australia 1
PORTLAND, Ore. - Alberta Sackey scored a pair of goals to lead Ghana to its first-ever victory in Women's World Cup competition.
Ghana's victory in its final Group D match advanced China into the quarterfinals.
Australia finished 0-2-1.
Ghana is now 1-4-1 in two World Cup appearances.
