Frank Weinstock: The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music kicks off its fall performance season with a recital by the superstar faculty pianist performing Shubert's Four Impromptus, Beethoven's Sonata in C Major, Berg's Sonata in B Minor and John Adams' 1977 work China Gates, 8 p.m. today, Robert J. Hip-hop talk: MTV's The Real World inaugural cast member Kevin Powell, who went on to become a senior writer for Vibe and an urban culture expert, speaks about "The State of Hip-Hop Culture," 7 p.m. today, Great Room, MacMillan Hall, Miami University, Oxford. 'Dune' authors: Brian Herbert (son of science-fiction legend Frank Herbert, author of Dune) and Kevin J. Anderson are at Books & Co. to introduce Dune: The Machines Crusade, the second in the Legends of Dune series, a prequel to the original science fiction-fantasy masterpiece, 7-8 p.m. today, 350 E. Chamber orchestra: The Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Mischa Santora performs a mixed program of Beethoven and Berg with pianist Michael Chertock lending his light and masterful touch to Beethoven's dramatic Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major, 7:30 p.m. today, Greaves Concert Hall, Northern Kentucky University, Highland Heights. $10-$20. 723-1182.

20/20 Arts Fest

Baseball on display: One of the best events for the 20-day arts festival presented by Enjoy the Arts is a rare after-hours viewing of the blockbuster Baseball as America exhibit featuring hundreds of objects from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, 6-9 p.m. today at Cincinnati Museum Center. The fun is pumped up with baseball movies in the auditorium, ballpark snacks and the first-ever InterArts Indoor Wiffle Ball Game in the rotunda. $4.50-$6.75. On the radio

For Latin lovers: Hispanophiles and Spanish speakers want to turn the dial to WAIF 88.3 FM, 5-8 p.m. today for Buenos Dias America, a lively radio program featuring the latest in Latin pop and salsa, local and international news read in Spanish, information on area resources for Hispanics and more. Program is hosted by DJ Rudy Alvarez, known for his Friday-Saturday international dance nights at The Corinthian bar/restaurant in Clifton. 961-8900.

72 hours out: The Greater Cincinnati Kitchen, Bath and Design Show features four days of more than 100 design and remodeling experts showing and selling, home improvement seminars, celebrity appearances and more, starting Thursday, 5-9 p.m. at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center, Rivercenter Boulevard, Covington. $7, $3 age 13 and under. 281-0022.
