Dozens of students arrested after high school prank

The Associated Press

DUBLIN, Ohio - Police arrested 119 people early Friday after an apparent high school prank got out of hand, officers said.

The trouble began when police in this Columbus suburb spotted a large group of young people spray painting Dublin Coffman High School property.

The people, mostly students from rival Hilliard Darby High School, wanted to paint their school colors on Coffman's spirit rock outside the school, officers said.

Several people started throwing paint cans at officers and their cruisers and the situation quickly got of control, police said.

Police put out a call for help and officers from a half-dozen other departments responded.

Police said there was significant paint damage to two cruisers and signs at the school. No injuries were reported.

An 18-year-old man was charged with disorderly conduct and underage possession of alcohol. Trespassing, criminal damage and curfew charges were pending against others.

Police issued citations at the scene and the juveniles were turned over to their parents.
