What's the buzz?

Area firms join 'Forbes' best list

Two Greater Cincinnati companies are first-timers on Forbes magazine's annual Best 200 small companies list.

Multi-Color Corp., the fast-growing label and packaging supplier, ranked seventh, while Meridian Bioscience Inc., the Newtown-based supplier of medical diagnostic test kits, ranked 91st.

Two other companies with Cincinnati ties also made the list. St. Louis-based defense supplier Engineered Support Systems Inc., parent of Florence's Keco Industries and Engineered Environments in Clermont County, ranked ninth. Armor Holdings Inc., parent of Fairfield's O'Gara-Hess & Eisenhardt armoring company, ranked 153rd on the list.

Blue Ash's LSI Industries Inc., which came in at 194th in last year's list didn't make the cut this year.

Average share price of this year's 200 best small companies increased 58 percent versus 36 percent for the Russell 2000 Index, Forbes said.

The magazine said the small cap companies on this year's list averaged earnings per share growth of 19 percent and return on investment of 15 percent.
