The colors this year promise to be even more brilliant than in years past. Warm days and cool nights over the past few weeks have made a sweet deal with the leaves; such weather helps the leaves hold sugars, which in turn make yellows, reds and oranges even more lush and striking.
Tristate governments have created Web sites to make it easier for visitors to plan outdoor activities among those pretty leaves, or just click their way across the countryside. Indiana, for example, has Web cameras stationed at six locations throughout the state to give live shots of fall foliage. Ohio has a toll-free color hot line, (800) 282-5393 (BUCKEYE), that gives an up-to-date report on the best places to see good color.
