2 girls get citation for helping save bus driver

Allen Howard

Two Conner Middle School girls who helped save the life of a bus driver were recognized with a Kentucky Senate citation at school Thursday by state Sen. Dick Roeding.

Rochelle Harrison, 14, and Amanda Norris, 13, kept bus driver Jim Roberts awake and used the bus radio to get help when Roberts collapsed Oct. 6.

The girls, both from Petersburg, were the only passengers on the bus.

"To me, what those girls did was so extraordinary, I felt that the state Senate should offer them a citation for what they did," said Roeding.

The documentary, Kingdom Come School, depicts one-room schoolhouses in Kentucky. A second film deals with an Appalachian/American Indian in the 1930s, forced to attend a school to fit him into modern society.
