Grant to provide more AA Highway patrols
ALEXANDRIA - Campbell County Fiscal Court recently accepted a $20,000 grant from the Kentucky State Police Governor's Highway Safety Program for increased traffic enforcement on the AA Highway, also known as Ky. 9.
The highway is a four-lane rural highway that travels 18 miles through Campbell County. A study commissioned by the Kentucky General Assembly found that the injury and fatality crash rate is higher on the AA Highway in Campbell County than all other four-lane rural roads in the state.
Campbell County Police Chief David Sandfoss said the money will be used to increase patrols to target speeders.
Coalition to hire program coordinator
ERLANGER - The Kentucky Crime Prevention Coalition received a $72,700 grant from the Governor's Highway Safety Office this month. The money will be used to hire a state youth alcohol program coordinator for the Erlanger-based organization. The new coordinator will present youth programs across Kentucky and manage the coalition's driving simulator used to train drivers about the danger of drunken driving.
