By Karen Andrew
The Cincinnati Enquirer

ANDERSON TOWNSHIP - Virginia Mary Motz spent countless hours volunteering.

After a fall, she died Sunday from complications with cancer at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati. The Anderson Township resident was 60.

Over the last 25 years, she supervised monthly mailings at Cincinnati Right to Life, downtown and for 15 years, conducted monthly mailings at Pregnancy Center East in Hyde Park.

A devout Catholic, she also served for 20 years as church sacristan and marriage counselor of Focus at St. John Fisher Church in Newtown.

"She was a great wife, mother and neighbor," said Bill Burleigh, her neighbor for 25 years. "She started out as a teacher and I think those qualities shone throughout her life. Even though she had her own physical problems, she was always taking care of everyone else."

She graduated from Villa Madonna College, Covington, in 1965.

She taught at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Anderson 1965-67.She married Matthew Motz in 1967. That same year, the couple took over the family business, Motz Poultry Co. of Anderson Township, and moved it to Batavia.

The Motz family is also known for its Ohio State Fair blue ribbon-winning Clough Valley Maple Syrup and barn dances on their farm.

Survivors include her husband of 36 years and sons Nicholas, Bartholomew and Matthew Jr., all of Mount Washingtonand Louis of Anderson Township; two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Visitation is 9-11 a.m. Friday at St. John Fisher Church, Newtown, with the Mass of Christian burial following at 11 a.m.

Memorials: Pregnancy Center East, 2752 Erie Avenue, Suite 11, Cincinnati, OH 45208 or St. John Bosco Children's Home, Mandeville P.O., Manchester, Jamaica, West Indies.
