Playhouse puts costumes up for sale

Just in time for Halloween procrastinators, the Playhouse in the Park's costumes and props staff has raided the storage bins and collected one-of-a-kind buys for an auction and sale, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the Scenery Shop, 2827 Gilbert Ave., Walnut Hills.

Everyone will be after a pair of Dorothy's ruby slippers designed with the advice from the man who created Judy Garland's shoes for the film, the last munchkin outfit, the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow costumes and Dracula's cape.

The pickings include hand-painted comic book-style Western costumes from Keith Glover's Dark Paradise, '60s-styled wigs from Beehive, Wizard of Oz costumes, period dresses from The Importance of Being Earnest and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare.

Costume periods range from 1900s through 1980s and masks, headdresses, puppets, tuxedos, dress shirts, formal pants and vests, dresses and uniforms.

Bids will be accepted 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Nonauction items range from 50 cents to $150; most costume items are under $20, most props under $30. Cash, credit or check.

Kenneth Cole at Kenwood: The first Kenneth Cole New York store in Greater Cincinnati opens next month at Kenwood Towne Centre. The 3,000-square-foot store offers upscale sportswear, luggage, handbags, briefcases, watches and accessories for men and women. To mark the company's 20th anniversary, a new clothing and accessory line has been launched. .

Linda Love show: Linda Love's designs, known for drama and color, will be on the runway 7:30-10:30 p.m. Friday at Sharonville Convention Center.

The designer, who creates the knockout outfits for funkmaster Bootsy Collins, has planned a night of fashion and dessert to benefit the American Cancer Society. Tickets $20 at the door or in advance at 242-6802 or 891-1600.

Lazarus events: Men's fall clothing show with live entertainment, celebrities and refreshments, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. today at Lazarus-Macy's Fountain Place, downtown, and 6-8 p.m. at Kenwood Towne Centre. Also, Kate Spade handbags grand opening at Lazarus-Macy's, Monday through Oct. 29 at Kenwood Towne Centre with members of the designer's professional team on hand with advice on choosing the right handbags from the collection.

UC show: Business clothes modeled by 30 student models get the spotlight at the Dress for Success fashion show, noon-1:30 Wednesday in the Great Hall at Tangeman University Center at the University of Cincinnati.

Clothes from Lazarus-Macy's, Dillard's, SteinMart, Men's Wearhouse, Aeropostale and Hard Ta Knock will be shown. Free to UC students, faculty, staff and local employers.

Fall fashions: Fashions from SteinMart are planned for a show at Kenwood Woman's Club, 11 a.m. next Tuesday at Kenwood Country Club. Dan Carroll of Channel 19 will be the commentator.

A bakery sale and lunch will precede the show, which benefits scholarships. $30.
