Butler courts clerk must repay $5,500 after salary miscue
By Steve Kemme The Cincinnati Enquirer
HAMILTON - Because of a clerical error, Butler County Clerk of Courts Cindy Carpenter was overpaid last year by $5,565.
This week, the Ohio Auditor's Office issued a finding for recovery of the remaining $4,084 that had not yet been paid back.
Carpenter said the county auditor's office inadvertently miscalculated her 2002 salary at $65,513. It was supposed to be $59,748.
The office's financial director, Debbie Grubb, discovered the error, and Carpenter proposed a repayment plan through which she'll pay it back by the end of 2004.
The Ohio Auditor's Office also issued findings for recovery against four former employees of the Butler County Probation Department, who were overpaid for unused vacation leave.
David Schiavone, Middletown mayor, must repay $568; Richard Baker, $567; William Gray, $673; and Ronald Wells, $568.
