Compiled from staff and wire reports

Police looking into report of school rape

BOND HILL - Cincinnati Police are still investigating an alleged rape reported Tuesday at Woodward High School.

A 17-year-old freshman said she was sexually assaulted in the school by two males for two hours, between 10 a.m. and noon, according to the police report. She was taken to University Hospital by her aunt.

Police said the two males also are juveniles, but would not say if they, too, are Woodward students. They did say all three knew each other.

No arrests have been made

$5,000 reward offered in slaying of Ky. man

TAYLOR MILL - The family of an 18-year-old man killed in Over-the-Rhine this summer has raised $5,000 extra in reward money.

Lisa Gregory spearheaded the collection for clues in the June killing of her son, Daniel Boone Gregory Lewis of Taylor Mill. Andre Buck was charged in the homicide, but he was freed after witnesses refused to testify before the grand jury.

Police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 352-3040. The anonymous tip line also offers up to $1,000 for clues.

Hearings planned for two tax levies

Two public hearings will be held next week on levies proposed for the March 2004 ballot.

The hearing for the Drake Center's proposed levy will take place at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The long-term, acute-care hospital is seeking $99 million over five years - a 39 percent increase from its current levy. Comments will also be taken on other services covered by the levy, including drug and alcohol treatment and the probation department.

The hearing for the Museum Center's proposed levy will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday. It's the first time the Museum Center has asked for an operating levy, and it is seeking 0.2 mills, or $3.5 million a year.

Both meetings will be held on the sixth floor of the county building, 138 E. Court St., downtown.

The Tax Levy Review Committee is holding the hearings as part of its review of the levy requests. The committee will recommend whether to put them on the ballot, and the county commissioners will make the final decision.

Boy admits making up attempted abduction

FAIRFIELD TWP. - A report of an attempted abduction Tuesday in the Lakewood subdivision off Princeton Road was determined to be false, police said Wednesday.

An 11-year-old boy told police a man wearing a black ski mask in a black Ford Mustang tried to kidnap him about 4 p.m. as he walked in the subdivision. But in an interview with police Wednesday, the boy admitted making up the story, Fairfield Township police Capt. Alan Laney said.

The boy was locked out of his house because he couldn't remember the key code to his garage, Laney said. He will not be charged with making a false report because of his age, police say.

Retirement village to renovate a wing

WESTWOOD - The Judson Village Retirement Community plans to renovate a wing of its Harrison Avenue facility to serve people in the middle stages of Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.

The new S. Paul Mathews Terrace, named after one of the founders of Judson Village, will include eight specially designed apartments.

Residents will receive medications, therapies and other services designed to retain memory and reduce harmful behavior.

An event announcing the project, which includes an appearance by Enquirer columnist Peter Bronson, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday .

Do something warm: Donate coats to needy

Don't' throw away your old coats and jackets - take them to be recycled instead.

IGA supermarkets, Shoe Carnival and participating fire departments are collecting for the fourth annual 5 Cares Coat Drive, sponsored by WLWT-TV and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

New and gently used coats will be passed along to needy families and individuals. In 2002, about 3,500 coats were collected.

The coat drive runs through Nov. 21. For information and a list of collection sites: wwww.channelcincinnati.com or www.svdpcincinnati.org. Anyone interested in donating or helping with the drive can call St. Vincent de Paul at (513) 562-8841, ext. 10.

Cleveland may get citywide Wi-Fi net

CLEVELAND - This town may one day have a free citywide wireless Internet network.

Cleveland city government, local universities, the school district and the transit authority are on board with OneCleveland, a local organization dedicated to building a citywide wireless fidelity - or "Wi-Fi" - network for nonprofits.

Dell Klingensmith, interim head of OneCleveland, said Wednesday that his group's goal is to provide wireless Internet services to the city's nonprofits.
