Dan's Team regained the lead in week three of the Stock Market Game thanks to a strong market for Chilean copper.
The students in Rick Creager's Finance, Insurance and Real Estate class at Springboro High School have a mock portfolio of 33,645 shares of Madeco SA, a copper wire and cable maker based in Santiago, Chile.
Madeco (MAD) has gained 9.6 percent in the last week - but Dan's Team gained almost twice that (before paying fees and commissions) because much of the stock was bought on margin.
Meanwhile, in the middle school division, the Darkstar team - Bill Glisson's students at the Miami Valley School - leaped into the lead when Carrier Access Corp. shares soared nearly 41 percent on Thursday, after the broadband products maker posted its first profit in at least a year, and predicted fourth-quarter revenue will rise sharply from the third-quarter level.
