MADISON TWP. - Four people, three of them juveniles, were injured in a traffic crash Friday - the latest in this month's spate of serious accidents involving teen drivers in Butler County.
A medical helicopter took two teens to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton after the Friday afternoon wreck at Ohio 4 and Keister Road, the Butler County Sheriff's Office said.
Stephanie Farfan, 17, was listed in fair condition at Miami Valley, where a nursing supervisor was unable to confirm the identity of the second airlifted teen. Justina Chavez, 16, and the adult driver of a second vehicle, Ron Parker of Hamilton, were treated at Middletown Regional Hospital and released.
Police did not release the identity of the driver of the car carrying the three teens.
Friday's crash was at least the fourth serious wreck involving teen drivers in Butler County since Oct. 1. The toll: two teens killed, eight injured.
Sheriff's Lt. Mike Craft said, "There are an enormous amount of programs in place for high school kids. We're putting the message out there as hard and as strong as we can. We just need to figure a way to put it out in a form that they will listen to."
On Oct. 1, Jason Farthing, an 18-year-old Talawanda High School student, was killed after his vehicle turned into the path of a semi tractor-trailer on U.S. 127.
Oct. 21: Kaitlen Holt, 16, was driving her three younger siblings to school when she pulled from Tolbert Road into the path of a pickup truck at Ohio 503. She, two brothers and a sister were hurt; her 12-year-old brother was critically injured.
An Oct. 15 crash killed Benjamin J. Reece and seriously hurt his friend, Kyle McClellan. Neither 16-year-old was wearing a seat belt.
