RICHMOND, Ky. - Two New Jersey men were brought to Lexington to face murder charges in the deaths of three men whose bodies were found in the Kentucky River, state police said.
Audencio Alkabala-Sanchez, 37, and Luis Alberto Alkabala-Sanchez, 22, both of Lakewood, N.J., were arrested Sept. 19. Each faces three counts of murder.
Kentucky State Police Lt. Merrell Harrison said the men were brought to the Fayette County jail late Friday night.
Arraignments for both men were scheduled for Monday in Fayette County District Court.
The Alkabala-Sanchezes originally asked for an extradition hearing. State Police Lt. Mark Merriman said they recently changed their mind, and waived the hearing.
On April 28, the bodies of Juan Manuel Moreno, 29, of Fabens, Texas; Cruz Rincon Alarcon, 37, of San Elizario, Texas, and Manuel Armendariz, 49, of El Paso, Texas, were found wrapped in tarps and floating in the Kentucky River near the Clark-Madison county line. Each died of gunshot wounds.
A third man charged in the deaths, Arturo Leal, 46, of San Elizario, Texas, appeared in court earlier this month and waived his right to a pretrial hearing. Leal was the first of the suspects to face a Kentucky judge on charges in the slayings.
A fourth suspect, Antonio Sanchez, 20, remains at large.
