Politics played an important role in LaJean F. Ager's life. And so did Cincinnati.
Having never missed voting in an election in 74 years was only half the story. A very active Republican, Mrs. Ager was known to politicians as someone with whom they could consult on a range of issues, recalled her daughter Jean Barrington Ager of West Chester, Penn.
But her love of politics was outweighed only by her love of Cincinnati. Trips away were bittersweet because she couldn't wait to get back home.
"She was absolutely in tears when we got back in Cincinnati because she missed the place so much," said her daughter. "She just absolutely loved Cincinnati."
Ager died Sept. 23 in Wynnewood, Penn., where she had moved three years ago. The former Pleasant Ridge resident was 94. Her husband, Robert, a former Hughes High School physics teacher, died in 1989.
Ager was active at Seventh Presbyterian Church, elected several times to lead the Women's Society, taught Sunday school, adult Bible school and was a church elder. She was president of the Northeast Republican Women's Club, a member of the Eagle Women's Republican Club, Ohio Federation of Republican Women and National Federation of Republican Women. She was also a member of the Antique Glass Club of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Historical Society,
Other survivors include a sister, Mary Ann Hansen of Hagerstown, Md.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the York Chapel of Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church, 5950 Montgomery Road.
