NEW YORK - Petr Nedved scored for the second straight game as the New York Rangers got their first victory over Detroit in four years, beating the Red Wings 3-1 Saturday night.

Bobby Holik and Mark Messier also scored for the Rangers, who had lost seven straight games to the Red Wings since their last win over Detroit on Oct. 30, 1999. The drought at home was even longer as Detroit had won seven in a row at Madison Square Garden, dating to March 1997.

Mike Dunham was sharp again for the Rangers, making 23 saves.

Dominik Hasek made 29 saves one night after his 62nd career shutout. Mathieu Schneider scored for the Red Wings.

Lightning 3, Wild 2

TAMPA, Fla. - Cory Stillman scored a tiebreaking short-handed goal early in the third period as undefeated Tampa Bay overcame a two-goal deficit for its franchise-best sixth straight win to open the season.

Stillman scored from the low right circle off a pass by Tim Taylor during a two-on-one at 1:14.

Brad Richards and Vincent Lecavalier also scored for the Lightning, who are the first team since the 1996-97 Dallas Stars to open the season with six straight wins.

The NHL record 10, set by the 1993-94 Toronto Maple Leafs.

Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Marc Chouinard scored for Minnesota.

Senators 6, Canadiens 2

MONTREAL - Marian Hossa had three assists to help Ottawa extend its winning streak to four.

Jason Spezza, Radek Bonk and Daniel Alfredsson each had a goal and an assist for Ottawa, which beat Montreal for the second time in a little more than two weeks.

Vaclav Varada, Peter Schaefer and Martin Havlat also scored, and Patrick Lalime made 23 saves.

Sheldon Souray had his first career two-goal game for the Canadiens, who hadn't allowed more than one goal in a game while winning five of six since a season-opening 5-2 loss in Ottawa.

Islanders 7, Penguins 2

UNIONDALE, N.Y. - Mariusz Czerkawski and Trent Hunter each had a pair of goals as New York won for the third time in four games.

Janne Niinimaa, Jason Blake and Sean Bergenheim also scored for New York. Garth Snow finished with 18 saves for his second straight win.

Rico Fata and Alexei Morozov scored for the Penguins, who have just one win in their first seven games (1-4-2-0). Sebastien Caron went the entire way, and made 31 saves.

Maple Leafs 4, Capitals 1

TORONTO - Mats Sundin scored his first goal of the season and 300th with Toronto, which won its third straight.

The center also scored 135 goals in four seasons with the Quebec Nordiques.

Alexander Mogilny had two assists, and Bryan McCabe scored a goal.

Toronto goalie Ed Belfour made 39 saves en route to his 404th win to move past Grant Fuhr for sixth on the career wins list.

Jaromir Jagr scored for the Capitals, 0-6-1 since opening the season with a 6-1 win over the New York Islanders.

Panthers 3, Thrashers 2

ATLANTA - Olli Jokinen scored a third-period goal and backup goalie Steve Shields made 33 saves as Florida handed Atlanta its first regulation loss of the season.

Viktor Kozlov and Mike Van Ryn also scored for Florida, which has yet to score more than three goals in a game.

Shields started for the first time this season in place of Roberto Luongo, who had faced a league-high 282 shots through the first eight games.

Goals by Atlanta's Ilya Kovalchuk 7:37 into the third and Vyacheslav Kozlov with 2:32 left brought the Thrashers within a goal.

Avalanche 5, Predators 3

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Milan Hejduk scored two goals less than two minutes apart in the second period and added an assist, and Peter Forsberg added a goal and two assists.

It was the sixth straight win for the Avalanche on the Predators' home ice. Colorado is 12-4-5-0 against Nashville.

Adam Hall, Scott Walker and Scott Hartnell scored for the Predators.

Teemu Selanne also scored for Colorado and Steve Konowalchuk hit an empty-netter with 3.1 seconds left.

Bruins 5, Devils 2

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Rookie Andrew Raycroft made 31 saves and Boston scored four third-period goals to rally.

Patrice Bergeron, Sergei Samsonov, Glen Murray and Joe Thornton tallied in the final period as the Bruins won their fifth straight road game for rookie coach Mike Sullivan. Martin Lapointe also scored for Boston, which is 1-0-1 against the Stanley Cup champions.

Patrik Elias and Jamie Langenbrunner scored for New Jersey, which is winless at home this season (0-3-1), losing the last three.

Flyers 4, Hurricanes 4

PHILADELPHIA - Mark Recchi scored short-handed late in the third period as Philadelphia rallied from an early two-goal deficit.

Niclas Wallin scored two goals and Jamie Storr made 28 saves in his first start of the season as Carolina finished a four-game road trip unbeaten at 1-0-3-0. Radim Vrbata added a goal and an assist, and Danny Markov also scored for the Hurricanes.

Jeremy Roenick, Michal Handzus and Eric Chouinard also scored for the Flyers, winless in their last three games (0-1-1-1).

Stars 3, Blue Jackets 2

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Bill Guerin assisted on three third-period goals.

Jason Arnott, Philippe Boucher and Rob DiMaio scored for the Stars, who had gone 160 minutes and 41 seconds without a goal before Arnott tied the game at 1-all midway through the third period.

Rick Nash and Andrej Nedorost scored for the Blue Jackets. Nash ended Columbus' scoreless run at 110 minutes and 16 seconds, scoring on a 5-on-3 rush in the second period.

Flames 4, Oilers 2

EDMONTON, Alberta -Jarome Iginla had a goal and two assists.

Craig Conroy and Steven Reinprecht had a goal and assist each for the Flames, while enforcer Krzysztof Oliwa notched his first of the year.

Alexei Semenov and Ryan Smyth scored for Edmonton.

Both teams were testy. There were five fights and 70 penalty minutes in the first period alone.

Blackhawks 3, Kings 2

LOS ANGELES - Pavel Vorobiev scored his first NHL goal during a power play, and Nathan Dempsey also connected with the man advantage against Los Angeles, which has the league's worst penalty-killing unit.

Steve Sullivan scored the go-ahead goal and Jocelyn Thibault made 36 of his 44 saves in the last two periods.

It was Chicago's first game since general manager Mike Smith was fired on Friday. Smith was replaced by senior vice president Bob Pulford on an interim basis.

Derek Armstrong and Lubomir Visnovsky scored for the Kings.

Sharks 4, Coyotes 4

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Scott Thornton scored on his own rebound with 4:37 left as San Jose blew a third-period lead but rallied to tie.

Paul Mara and Mike Sillinger put the Coyotes ahead with goals midway through the third period, after Kyle McLaren gave San Jose a 3-2 lead late in the second.

Marco Sturm and Jonathan Cheechoo also scored for the Sharks, who haven't won in seven home games dating to last season.

David Tanabe and Shane Doan also scored for the Coyotes.

AHL Ducks end skid

Cory Pecker, Joel Stepp and Chris Kunitz scored 1:33 apart in the second period to lead the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks to a 4-1 victory over the Grand Rapids Griffins at the Gardens. Joel Perrault also scored and Keith Aucoin chipped in with a pair of assists for the Ducks, who snapped a four-game winless streak (0-3-1-0) and won for the first time since Dec. 28, 2001 against Grand Rapids in Cincinnati (0-6-1-2). Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 28 shots in the win for Cincinnati, which killed all eight of the Griffins' power play chances.

ECHL Cyclones win

Cincinnati (3-3-0) romped 4-1 over the Dayton Bombers at U.S. Bank Arena. Randy Petruk stopped 29 of 30 shots for his third victory. Ryan Brindley, Fraser Clair, Terry Marchant and Garrett Prosofsky scored for the Clones.

Miami sweeps LSSU

The RedHawks (3-4-1, 3-1-0 CCHA) completed a two-game weekend sweep at Lake Superior (1-3-0, 0-2-0) with a 2-1 victory Saturday. Freshman goalie Steve Hartley, son of Atlanta Thrashers coach Bob Hartley, made 26 saves for his first college victory in five starts (1-4-0).
