Going Out

Rookwood Halloween: More than 70 shops and restaurants at Rookwood Commons and Pavilion are handing out goodies to young ones in costume, 2-4 p.m. today, Madison and Edwards roads, Norwood. CSO: The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra performs a rare Sunday afternoon concert with Paavo J”rvi conducting at 3 p.m. today at Music Hall. The ambitious program includes Japanese violinist Akiko Suwanai lending a hand on Brahms Violin Concerto in D Major, the CSO premiere of Searching for Roots by Estonian composer Erkki-Sven T¸¸r and Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique. $13-$54. 381-3300.

Tony Furtado: The bluegrass fusion artist is at Jack Quinn's Emerald Ballroom with his band The American Gypsies, 8:30 p.m. today, 112 E. Fourth St., Covington. Expect to hear many selections from his most recent release, Live Gypsy, a sublime mix of rootsy sounds with jazz, funk and rock. $12-$15. 779-9462.

Whirl of Jazz: Acclaimed bandleader and jazz master Joshua Redman is the headlining performer at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music's benefit concert "In a Whirl of Jazz," 5 p.m. today, Corbett Auditorium, UC. Longtime Cincinnati jazz DJ Oscar Treadwell will be honored at the concert. $10-$20. 556-4183.

Pet Parade

Halloween for Dogs: Pet owners are invited to dress their dogs and participate in Mainstrasse Village's Second Annual "Ghoulish Pet Parade," 1 p.m. today along the Sixth Street Promenade in the Covington historic district. Event includes roving characters and the Covington Police Department Canine Unit. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. at the Goose Girl Fountain, Sixth and Main streets. Pets must be kept on a leash. Free parking at the Fifth Street Parking Lot, on Fifth Street between Philadelphia and Main streets. $5 registration fee for dogs; spectators free. (859) 491-0458.

Jewish Exhibit

Danish heroes: The new location of the Jewish Community Center has just opened the exhibit Denmark, 1943: The Rescue of Jews from Annihilation, featuring rare artifacts, photographs and text telling the story of how the Danish people saved much of their Jewish population during the Holocaust. The national touring exhibit, organized by the Project Judaica Foundation in Washington, is on display through Nov. 26. Viewing hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, 7420 Montgomery Road, Silverton. Planning Ahead

24 hours out: The Women's Theater Initiative, in its efforts to spotlight contemporary British women playwrights, offers a staged reading of Caryl Churchill's recent two-piece comedy Blue Heart, 7 p.m. Monday, Gallagher Student Center, Xavier University, Dana Avenue and Victory Parkway, Evanston. $5. 604-8545.

72 hours out: Legendary folk singer Joan Baez offers an intimate evening at the 20th Century in support of her recent release Dark Chords on a Big Guitar, 8 p.m. Wednesday, 3021 Madison Road, Oakley. $30. 779-9462.
