PITTSBURGH - Mario Lemieux became the sixth player in NHL history with 1,700 points, setting up Penguins defenseman Dick Tarnstrom's goal late in the first period Wednesday night against the Islanders.
Lemieux took Konstantin Koltsov's pass along the right wing boards, slipped the puck between the legs of New York defenseman Janne Niinimaa, then made a backhanded pass to the slot to Tarnstrom for his second goal of the season.
Lemieux joins Wayne Gretzky (2,857), Gordie Howe (1,850), Mark Messier (1,847), Marcel Dionne (1,771) and Carolina Hurricanes captain Ron Francis (1,760 points) on the 1,700-point list.
Mighty Ducks 4, Capitals 2: Sergei Federov scored two goals and Martin Gerber made 23 saves as the Anaheim Mighty Ducks beat the slumping Washington Capitals.
The Capitals lost their sixth straight and are winless in eight games since an opening-day victory.
Flyers 5, Panthers 1: Michal Handzus and Joni Pitkanen each had a goal and assist and Robert Esche stopped 21 shots.

DE LA HOYA WANTS MOSLEY AGAIN: Before fighting Sugar Shane Mosley last month, Oscar De La Hoya said he would retire if he lost. When Mosley beat him for the second time, lifting the WBA and WBC 154-pound titles, De La Hoya said he wasn't interested in a third fight.
Six weeks after losing the disputed decision, De La Hoya promised Wednesday to get back in the ring one more time with Mosley.
"I'm definitely going to fight again, that's for sure," he said.

FREE AGENT FILINGS: Atlanta pitcher Greg Maddux filed for free agency again Wednesday, and New York Yankees left-hander David Wells filed provisionally, not waiting for the team's decision on his 2004 option.
Phillies pitcher Kevin Millwood, traded by the Braves after the 2002 season, also was among the 16 players who filed, raising the total to 149 in the four days since the World Series ended.
Maddux, a four-time Cy Young Award winner, also filed for free agency after last season but couldn't find a multiyear deal to his liking. He accepted Atlanta's offer of salary arbitration and agreed to a one-year deal worth $14.75 million. The 37-year-old right-hander then went 16-11 with a 3.96 ERA.
The Yankees have a $6 million option on Wells' contract with a $1 million buyout and have until Nov. 15 to exercise the option.
SILVER SLUGGER: Giants outfielder Barry Bonds won a record 11th Silver Slugger award, given to the top offensive players in each league. Bonds hit .341 this past season with 45 home runs and 90 RBI in just 390 at-bats.
ORIOLES: Tom Foley, third-base coach for Tampa Bay, interviewed for Baltimore's vacant managerial post. New York Yankees first-base coach Lee Mazzilli will interview today.
DEVIL RAYS: Shortstop Julio Lugo's $1.75 million option was exercised by the team.
Olympics
STEROID TESTING: The International Olympic Committee is looking into whether drug tests at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics can be rechecked for the recently discovered steroid THG, IOC medical director Patrick Schamasch said.
Lawyers for the International Olympic Committee are studying the legality of retroactive testing of frozen urine samples taken to Los Angeles from the temporary Olympic drug-testing laboratory at the University of Utah's Research Park.
