MORROW - Principal Scott Gates will leave Morrow Elementary School to become early intervention specialist with the Warren County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities.
"I'll miss it here. Everyone is for kids and each other,'' said Gates, 35, who has been principal the past five years in this southern Warren community. "We have a building where the climate and culture is 100 percent for kids.''
Gates' last day in Morrow is Dec. 19. He will begin his new job Jan. 5, at an annual salary of $75,000.
In June, Gates' duties will be expanded to include the entire school age program, said John Lazares, MRDD superintendent.
"We recruited Scott. He's an expert with special needs children," Lazares said. "He's very good with the parents of special needs children. Our people have to have a compassion for the parents and Scott has that."
Applications for Morrow principal will be accepted through Nov. 7. Recommendation for a new principal may be made at the board's Nov. 18 meeting.
